FROM SUNDAY 19th JUNE to FRIDAY 24th JUNE – 5 nights – Full Board
Arrival at LPH on Sunday afternoon in Braithwaite on Bassenthwaite one of the beautiful lakes in the Lake District and near the lovely town of Keswick on Derwentwaters.
This week in the Lake District includes Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. While own transportation is required to reach our painting locations, we will arrange car shares so driving is limited. Some places available for any coming by train.
On arrival at LPH, you will be taken to your on-suite Double Bedroom, which means non-painting partners are also welcome to join us. At 4:00… after your complimentary arrival coffee/tea when you get to meet your fellow painters, we will take you to the indoors painting area to settle you at your painting station, before dinner, where we will be undertaking the indoors part of painting week. All participants are asked to bring a metal easel and a further list of material recommended will be sent on booking confirmation. Additional material will be provided to assist you should you have forgotten anything.
Dinner is at 7:00 every evening of your stay, except Wednesday which will be a free night and we will be happy to recommend several restaurants and pubs in the area.
After dinner when you can relax with your coffee/tea or a glass of wine (LPH is liscensed), Lupe Cunha is planning evening activities related to the next days for an hour each evening then the rest of the evening is for chatting and exchanges. Days will be planned according to the possibilities of the weather, providing either indoor or outdoors painting locations. We recommend you bringing either a smartphone, an IPad or a tablet as we will be using the Digital Painting App Art Rage to complement our outings and a brief tutorial will be provided this first day to ensure you get ample photographic source material to enrich your painting time. Lupe Cunha while an MA in Fine Art, worked as professional photographer for 25 years before returning to painting.
Breakfast every morning is at 8:30 before gathering at 9:45 for our morning tutorial. These will be brief materials/techniques guidelines for the day, as we aim to go out at 10:30 every morning to research the landscapes whatever the weather. After the morning sketching and collecting ideas and compositions, we return to LPL for a lunchtime crit of the mornings work and after a short break an afternoon at base with demonstrations and tutorials on the day’s painting project. If the weather is very inclement we have some indoor locations to visit. Please note that at some of these there may be a small entry fee to pay. Over the days we will be building up to a full day outdoor painting on the last day.
‘Over the next few days, I will be posting blogs showing day by day the places and artistic activity planned. Alongside these outlines will be photographs of the places we may be painting at as well as samples of work that might be undertaken. My thanks to the artists who joined me in March 2016 when I visited LPH to plan these workshop and who graciously provided their work, sketches and experience to enable me to organize this workshop. Thank you, Jan Reichmann, Lotte Farnham, Chris Odell, Ruth Ward, Jan Willis. Your patience and forbearance in playing Guinea Pigs is much appreciate !’
